Hardman Olympic – Killarney
1.5k Swim – 40k Bike – 10k Run – September 8, 2018
Now in it’s final year this race is the only fast, flat course on the Hardman circuit. One final blowout before the end of the season. Your last chance to enjoy the beautiful Lakes of Killarney and the National Park at this distance.
Starting from Transition 1 in the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club you will make your way up the road towards the exit. At the exit from the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, you are at a T Junction with the N72. A lane of cones will direct you on to the Cycle path on the left hand side of the N72. Stewards will be present to assist you.
Continue on the N72 to the roundabout at Killorglin. Take the third (3rd) exit on N72 direction Killarney. Please exercise caution at the roundabout. There will be a turn steward or a transponder reader at the roundabout. You must complete the circuit of the roundabout (a slightly raised and white painted bump on the road).
Continue directly to Killarney on the N72 until the roundabout at Ballydowney. This is a large and busy junction. Please exercise caution here. Take the third exit on the roundabout heading in the direction of Killarney and the Cathedral. Just after the junction with New Road you will come to the dismount line where you will cross the road into the transition area. Please take extreme caution here.
Start from Transition 2 at the playing field next to the playground. Run towards the Castlerosse hotel where the marshalls will guide you through the hotel. Run into the Knockreer Demesne the run is across flat parkland and then along the riverbank towards the lake. Follow the lakeshore to Ross Castle. Run on the footpath of Ross Road until Reen Cottage. Re-enter the demesne and continue until you come to the river again. Turn right along the riverbank to the Kings Bridge. Turn left over the bridge and continue on for 30 metres. Turn right and run past the cottage. Before the main gate turn left down the Fossa path coming to the finish area at transition 2 after 200 metres.
